Eating out with Kids in Port Douglas
As a parent of two young children myself, one of the first things I wanted to know when I arrived in Port Douglas was where to find the best places to eat out with kids. I was looking for places where I could relax and enjoy a casual meal without having to constantly watch and chase after my kids. After some searching and a few trial and error experiences, I’ve discovered three fantastic spots that I highly recommend.
Central Hotel
One of the oldest and most popular pubs in Port Douglas. Located right in the heart of Macrossan Street, the Central Hotel has a securely fenced grassed area at the rear that’s perfect for kids to play and make new friends in. Meanwhile, parents can catch all the major sporting events on the big screens in the beer garden.
Surf Club Bar and Bistro
Affectionately known as “The Surfy”, there is a fenced playground where parents can relax while keeping an eye on their kids. During busier times, reservations are recommended for the restaurant, but there are a couple of large picnic tables close to the bar next to the playground, which do not require reservations and are perfect for casual dining.
Tiki Bar at Plantation Resort
A casual laid-back bar and beer garden with a pool, where the locals bring their families. Kiki’s Kousina provides simple and super tasty Greek food, while kids can mingle and play various ball games in the tennis court area. Visitors are free to use the pool, which is open from Wednesday through to Sunday. There’s also live music most evenings, including Wednesday night karaoke with Rock’n Rick.
All three spots are sure to keep both parents and kids happy while enjoying a meal out in Port Douglas. As a parent myself, I highly recommend checking them out during your stay.
